Stereo thermal vision for drones

See heat in three dimensions.

Red Snake is a stereo thermal camera for drones, including FPV. Two thermal cores deliver 3D thermal imaging, passive range sensing and super-resolution, with a supply chain designed for NDAA compliance.

The problem

Single thermal cameras see a flat world.

A conventional thermal camera shows where heat is, but not how far away it is. Operators must guess range and scale from a flat image, often at night, in smoke, or at speed. Adding active sensors like lidar or radar adds weight, power draw and an emission signature.

Single camera

Heat, no depth.

Red Snake stereo

Heat plus distance.

The solution

Red Snake: two eyes for heat.

Pit vipers sense heat through two pits on their head, and use them to strike accurately in total darkness. Red Snake applies the same idea: two thermal cores, a fixed baseline, and onboard processing that turns two heat images into depth.

  • Stereo thermal pair for 3D perception
  • Passive: no emitted light, laser or radio for ranging
  • Built for drones, including FPV platforms
  • No Chinese parts; designed for NDAA compliance
Status: prototype in development
Capabilities

Built around what thermal has been missing.

3D thermal imaging

Two synchronized thermal views produce a depth map of the heat scene, not just a picture.

Passive ranging

Distance from stereo geometry alone, with nothing emitted that could reveal the platform.

Super-resolution

Combining two cores recovers detail beyond what either sensor captures on its own.

NDAA-focused supply chain

No Chinese components. Every part is selected with NDAA compliance as a design requirement.

Drone-ready

A lightweight, compact payload designed for small UAS and FPV airframes.

Indiana-based

Designed and developed by Ophidex Sensing in Fishers, Indiana.

Use cases

Where depth in the dark matters.

Defense

Night and low-visibility awareness for small drones, with passive ranging to heat sources and a supply chain built for NDAA requirements.

Public safety

Search and rescue, firefighting and law enforcement: locate people and hotspots, and judge how far away they are.

Industrial inspection

Measure and map thermal anomalies on power lines, solar farms, pipelines and structures in 3D.
